A day in the life: SAIGON
Saigon South International School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, is a college preparatory school for students aged 3 to 18 years and teaches both the IB and the American Curriculum. Here we follow a typical day in the life of the school.
High school students arrive just in time for their first period classes. 80% of the families at school live in the local neighborhood.
The Early Childhood students are hard at work on their houses' mural for the ‘Where we live’ unit of study.
In grade 4 the students learn about sustainability, and here they're creating projects that will demonstrate ways in which we can conserve electricity. The Makerspace will allow all elementary students to experience the design cycle.
Grade 7 students explore chemistry in the science lab. We're all just glad that they've finished dissecting the pig hearts...
1, 2, 3…go! PE includes units of swimming at all levels. This class is learning to dive.
It’s time for the KG students to learn about volcanoes as they study the ‘Land before time’ unit. Luckily they can do this in the EC playground’s sand pit.
11th and 12th grade students attend a lecture on writing university admissions essays. Sessions are taught at various times throughout the year, even on weekends.
Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) students benefit from small group instruction. By limiting the enrollments of EAL students, we ensure rapid language development.
Students are creating their ‘chair passion’ projects. At SSIS all students are required to participate in the fine arts. Exhibitions are held annually to display their work.
During lunch break the children can use the library. Books and online resources can both support research for school projects.
The black box theatre is all abuzz as a well-known storyteller enthrals the students. Authors and storytellers come to visit and teach students every year.
Students in HS are discussing an upcoming social studies project. All students in grades 4-12 are required to bring MacBooks to school. SSIS is the only Apple Distinguished School in Vietnam.
Learning sound effects is an important skill in drama, as students are expected to produce a radio show and commercials.
Our ES students discover our host country through levelled lessons on language and culture, taught by our teaching assistants.
ES soccer Dragons practice on our grass fields. Our six-hectare award winning park-like campus allows for a variety of sports and activities to be played after school.
MS Badminton Dragons take on a visiting team. Our middle school students can give many different sports a try.
The HS jazz club takes advantage of a quiet afternoon to practice in the newly renovated auditorium.
