U13 BSME Netball kicked off to a flying start on Friday 10th November at NYU with the team leaving British International School of Jeddah scoreless with a 20 – 0 win. Following a good warm up, the girls next opponents were the reigning champions; The English School Kuwait. After a shaky start the girls fought back at half time but finished with a 11-23 loss. From this point onwards the girls knew there was no more losing if they were to gain a spot in the semi-finals; so they dug deep to win against British School of Muscat; 9-6, BISAD; 9-4 and Nord Anglia School Dubai; 11-8 to take them into the Semi Final.
Up against our rival Abu Dhabi Team Brighton College, it went goal for goal for 15 minutes but after a turn over ball we lost 10-13 but with our heads head high. Our final match of the weekend saw us take on Kings Al Barsha where we once again lost after a well fought match 11-13. An amazing achievement; 4th place to Cranleigh Abu Dhabi; our first ever BSME event. The girls very much did us proud; with amazing shooting from Sophie van Alplen, great defence from Simone McNeil and excellent leadership from captain Harriet Norman.
A very big congratulations to all girls who played this weekend on a fabulous achievement. Competition was tough; but the girls are confident and determined to come back next year and take on first place. Thanks to British Schools in the Middle East - BSME for a great event and to NYU Abu Dhabi for the use of their exceptional venue.
