The three-day regional tournament included football, athletics, volleyball (boys) and netball (girls). Fourteen British school teams from the UAE and all over the Middle East – including Kuwait, Egypt, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan and Saudi Arabia – descended on NYUAD on Wednesday evening to get acquainted and settled.

Day One on Thursday started with a rousing, Olympic-style opening ceremony at NYUAD’s magnificent athletics stadium. At the end of the day, our girls were honoured to receive the Girls Football ‘Sportsmanship Award’, reflecting their exemplary conduct both on and off the field. Day Two saw all competitors at NYUAD for track and field events. We were in the finals of the boys 100m and 200m (Zayn), 800m (Christian) and the 4X100m relay for both boys and girls. Dan took bronze in the shotput, Zayn a bronze in the high jump and Mia won the 800m gold in a thrilling race. Day Three featured netball for the girls and football for the boys. The boys fought hard and kept the pressure up till the very end. The girls started strong but were devastated with a loss that risked their place in the semi-final. In a nail-biting game, our girls rose to the challenge and emerged victors and became BSME U15 Games Netball champions 2017. The Games closed last night with a Gala Dinner and prize giving at NYUAD. The Cranleigh team was placed ninth and was absolutely over the moon to be awarded the ‘Overall Fairplay’ award; what a wonderful end to a fabulous event. Many thanks to The British School – Al Khubairat and BSME - British Schools in the Middle East for organising this year’s Games. We are looking forward to next year.
