National Day at Cranleigh 2017 - the best yet! A huge thank you to Mr Deady and the many parents who worked with him to give us all such a wonderful day. The field looked incredible, the banquet was sumptuous and the educational activities were varied, engaging and most of all, lots of fun.
Year 10 students, Kirstine and Thea, share their summary of the day below.
'Today, we celebrated the UAE’s 46th birthday. All students and teachers came dressed in the colours of the national flag and some even went the extra mile and wore the UAE’s traditional clothing.
We started off slowly, waiting patiently in our form classes, admiring each other’s colourful outfits. Then the whole school gathered in the Sports Hall for a special assembly which was run brilliantly by Emirati pupils, proudly showcasing their national dance, poetry and recitations. There was a buzz of anticipation going around as the students were excited to take part in the activities they had signed up for.
Pupils and teachers alike left the Sports Hall to settle down on the pitch where Mr Johnson directed everyone into an ambitious formation and our school photographer, Mr John and Mr Nicol, took pictures from on top of the Science Building.
Pupils then went to take part in many different activities such as Dhow building, Arabic painting and ‘Capture the UAE Flag’. Luckily all the action helped us to work up an appetite so we were ready to enjoy the totally amazing National Day banquet.
It was a really fun-filled day when we all celebrated together while learning about the UAE.'
