Year 7 drama students travelled to Muscat in Oman over the weekend to take part in an International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) Festival. ISTA runs workshop festivals all over the world for drama enthusiasts and is well know for its highly interactive and participative approach.

The Festival was hosted by ABA School in Muscat and was attended by schools from Tanzania, Kuala Lumpur, Beirut and Saudi. The theme was “Water Water Everywhere” and the pupils went on a Dhow cruise along the Omani coast to get inspiration for subsequent workshops. Physical theatre, song, mask work and clowning were just some of the workshops experienced. The workshops and rehearsals culminated in a final sharing, where the importance of water and our need to look after our planet was emphasised through ensemble performance. The pupils stayed with host families from the ABA community and were warmly welcomed. This was a wonderful opportunity for like-minded Drama enthusiasts to come together. We hope that this will be the first of many ISTA Trips and we looks forward to offering the same hospitality that we received when Cranleigh hosts a festival in the future.
