Lessons included the ‘Three R’s’ delivered by a very strict school master. Children also played parlour games and dramatised Alfred Lord Tennyson’s ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’. In addition, they brushed up on their etiquette during afternoon tea and even decorated their own Victoria sponge cake to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
Just before lunch, we were honoured to be visited Queen Victoria herself! The Queen studied the Victorian inventions that we had adapted and chose a lucky winner to accompany her to lunch.
Year 4 gained a valuable insight into the life of a Victorian school child and came away thankful for the advances that have been made in education since then. The day was a great success and good old fashioned fun was had by all.
