My experiences: Germany
How does an international education change you?
ISH was Germany's first international school and it remains the only CIS-accredited in Hamburg, the country's 2nd largest city and recent European Green Capital. For 50+ years we have been satisfying parents who desire an excellent, full-day international education for their kids. We combine IPC and IB to create a seamless flow from preschool to top universities. Our 750+ students represent 50+ nationalities. We recruit highly qualified native speakers to create a vibrant, nurturing, student-centered experience. Many of our teachers serve as IB examiners or curriculum leaders. ISH's language is English, yet speakers of all languages are enabled to access the curriculum quickly and go on to thrive. We also provide opportunities for studying mother tongues during the curricular day or after school. All this is complemented by an extensive pastoral care and counseling program and a Welcome program that facilitates your arrival in Hamburg. Our facilities, built 2010 and expanded in 2015, leave nothing to be desired: 3 spacious gym halls, a full-size soccer pitch, a well-equipped fitness gym, 2 playgrounds, a 45.000+ materials library and our 400-seat auditorium are only part of what we can offer. Recognizing our responsibility to prepare our students for global citizenship, our mission is to provide them with a values-driven international education which seeks to develop their full potential and to foster understanding, respect for others, freedom of thought and expression, enjoyment of learning and personal responsibility. Consequently, our graduates have been able to successfully connect their educational experience to an ever-changing world of employment, advanced study at prestigious universities, the arts, or humanitarian service.
We admit students whose academic, personal, social and emotional needs can be met by our programmes and services. To enroll families have to follow the procedures as indicated on the Admissions page of the ISH web site. An interview can be made via the Admissions Office in order to schedule a visit to the campus.
All international students are accepted regardless of their English language ability up to grade 10. In grade 11-12, we expect students to have a good command of the English Language in order to meet the challenging academic demands. Placement tests in English and Mathematics are administered to students applying for Grades 6-12.
